Class Description

This class covers the basic principles of EBHC and focuses on the array of information resources available at the Health Sciences Library specifically geared toward finding the best evidence in the literature to answer clinical questions.  Resources covered include: The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Clinical Evidence, and special Internet resources, as well as special PubMed techniques used to locate evidence based studies.

 Class Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe “evidence based health care”
  • Identify at least two electronic EBM resources available from HSL.
  • Construct a well-built clinical question using PICO.
  • Understand the importance of the literature search in the EBM process.
  • Devise a search strategy to address a clinical question.
  • Identify at least one tool to assist in critical appraisal.
