Dear CAIFL 2023 Colleagues,
Thank you for joining us for the 2023 Critical Appraisal Institute for Librarians (CAIFL 2023) ! We are very excited to get this year's institute underway ! The first plenary session will take place on Wednesday 1/18 1:00 - 2:30 PM Eastern time. (PS - if I ever forget to write it, it's always Eastern time, I'm in NY and CT. I apologize in advance for any omission). Here is the full schedule and curriculum. Before jumping into the content please take the pre-test assessment as detailed in my email of December 20.
This course will be held 100% via Zoom. At this point I trust we are all familiar with the platform, but make sure you have a web cam, microphone, and good internet connection. If you would like to schedule a technology test in advance of the course, let me know and I'll happily meet with you for a technology check. The link to our course Zoom can also be found on the calendar invites sent for our two plenaries.
Course Content. Much of the required content for the course will be in the form of videos produced by Dr. Terry Shaneyfelt. In addition to the readings and videos, you will each be presenting one peer presentation (solo) and co-facilitating one journal club with a partner. More details to come on that. Furthermore, each week we will do a 5-question formative assessment so be aware of that. Your facilitator will walk you through it. If ever you can't make one of your small group sessions, you can request to join another group that week. Work that out with your facilitator. You need to attend all sessions in order to get the MLA credit.
Please feel free to reach out to me if anything is unclear. You all should have received your small group assignments and your facilitator will be emailing you in early January to provide a further introduction to themselves and the small group sessions.
There a lot of moving parts and we believe that each of you will get a lot out of this course. At the end, you will be added to the CAIFL Community of Practice, the CAIFL listserv, and invited to participate in monthly journal clubs to further provide practice and knowledge.
So as of now, welcome to the CAIFL family.
Let me know if you have any questions at this time.
