Data sets typically require a Data Use Agreement (DUA). This is a legal document that outlines the permissible use of the data. Before requesting data from a source, look carefully at the data documentation and DUA to ensure that the data is a good fit for your research question and that the way you hope to use it is allowed under the DUA.
