Biography

Dr. James William Ward, M.D. (1862-1939), was a graduate of the New York Homeopathic Medical College who went on to expand on the education of medical students throughout his professional career.

Born in Minneapolis, MN, in 1862, Dr. Ward graduated from the New York Homeopathic Medical College in 1883. Before graduating he was awarded a collection of over 500 homeopathic remedies from the college as acknowledgement for his contributions to medical research. He later moved to the west coast of the United States where he became known as the leading homeopathic surgeon of the west coast.

In 1898, he became dean of the Hahnemann Medical College of the Pacific. The next step in his medical career was in public health. He worked as the president of the Health Commission for San Francisco from 1900 to 1908. However, Dr. Ward did not forget his commitment to medical science education while working in this role. He returned to New York in 1903 where he performed demonstrations of his notable surgical techniques at Flower Hospital, one of the primary affiliations of the New York Homeopathic Medical College. He demonstrated his surgical techniques in the removal of tumors in the female reproductive system.
