EndNote Desktop

What is Endnote?

Endnote Desktop is a software used for citation management. Endnote allows you to:

  • Collect and save citations to your personalized EndNote Library.
  • Organize saved references into groups.
  • Easily insert in-text citations in Microsoft Word with the click of a button and automatically format your bibliography using Endnote's "Cite While You Write" tool. 
  • Share your Endnote library to collaborate with your colleagues. 
  • Store and annotate full-text pdfs attached to a reference. 

Install Endnote Desktop

Windows

  1. Download the EndNote21.zip file clicking the link below. 
  2. Unzip the EndNote21.zip file by Right-Clicking the mouse and select ‘Extract All’ from the menu.
  3. Select the location where you want to store the extracted files and click the Extract All option.
  4. Keep the .msi and .dat files together.
  5. Double-click the EN21Inst.msi file and follow the instructions to install it on your hard drive.
  6. When you first open EndNote Desktop, the system will either prompt you to create a new library or create one for you.

 

  • Mac Users: click here to download.
  • You must be your computer's administrator to install the software. Otherwise, please contact your computer's administrator to install.
  • Be sure to close all Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, etc.) before you start this process.

Instructions for Installation

Mac

  1. Download the EndNote21.dmg file above. 
  2. Unzip the EndNote21.dmg file by double clicking on it.
  3. Open the .dmg file and follow the instructions to install it on your hard drive.
  4. Once you’re finished installing EndNote Desktop, your system will prompt you to eject the .dmg file.
  5. When you first open EndNote Desktop, the system will either prompt you to create a new library or create one for you.
