Health Behavior & Community Health

A Selection of Health Behavior & Community Health eBooks

Find Books at the Library

If you want to browse the shelves, WA is the general Public Health area and a good place to start. Most Health Promotion literature is found on the library shelves under the WA590 call number. Behavioral Sciences literature is found on the library shelves under the WM 18 call number. However, relevant material may be located in other places in the library because behavioral sciences and health promotion are multi-disciplinary fields of study. And health promotion related to a specific condition or disease would likely be found in books about that particular disease.

To get started in our catalog, you might use keywords like:

  • Attitude to Health
  • Behavior Therapy
  • Health Behavior
  • Health Education
  • Health Promotion

Put your keywords into the library catalog, NYMCat (see the search box and instructions below).

Search NYMCat

Searching in NYMCat

Use NYMCat, our online catalog, to search the HSL Library collection for books, journals, and more.

You can use the search box above, or find a link to the Catalog right in the center of the library homepage. Or you can do a "Discovery Search." The Discovery Search searches beyond books in the collection and retrieves articles as well.

To perform a basic search in the Catalog, use the drop-down box to the right of the search box to choose your search parameters (e.g. title, author, etc.) and then type in your search terms.

NYMCat Advanced Search Screen

After you complete a search in NYMCat, clicking on the title of the material you're interested in will bring you to the item's record. The record will tell you more about the material, such as the name of the author, the publisher, and the publication date.

Now you can see even more information, including the subject headings that have been assigned to this resource. Subject headings, which are words or phrases that describe the material, can be very helpful in telling you more about what this resource is about as well as guiding you to other relevant materials. Clicking on a subject heading will bring you a list of other library materials that have also been assigned this subject heading.

The three pieces of information you need to get a book or other material that you've found in NYMCat off the shelf and checked out are:

1) Home Library Location - where in the library the book can be found, such as Main Library Oversize Collection

2) Call Number - where on the shelf to find the book, such as qWZ40 L991m 1978a

3) Status - whether or not the book is checked out, available, damaged, missing, or only available for use within the library
